Fall 2010 Alpha Course

What is Alpha? The Alpha course is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith. It’s relaxed, non-threatening, low key, friendly and fun. There is a meal together at the beginning of each session which gives you an opportunity to get to know each other. Listen, learn , discuss and discover. And ask anything. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile. And it’s supported by all the main Christian denominations.

What’s Involved? The Alpha course consists of a series of talks looking at topics such as “Who is Jesus?” and “Why and how do I pray?” After each talk we divide into small groups for a time of discussion.

Who is Alpha for? Alpha is for everyone, especially:

Those wanting to investigate Christianity
New Christians
Newcomers to the church
Those who want to brush up on the basics

Aug 22 Sunday Service – Tribute To Adrienne Weik

Today in church we celebrated Adrienne Weik’s 25th anniversary as our Director of Music. To begin church services, we recognized Adrienne with gifts and thanks from the congregation. Pastor Mike’s sermon was very appropriate and the choir gave their best for the occasion. I couldn’t help but think about my own kids who have been blessed by Adrienne’s talent and work in choir. As a dedication, in addition to sermon and anthem, I’ve include a sound clip from my daughter Lindsay’s High School performance in her play this past Spring. Sometimes, when you share your time, you don’t realize how much you touch people’s lives. I give great thanks for Adreinne and our church for supporting our kids. In the past two years, Lindsay has sung on stage in Torrington, Carnegie Hall and all over Europe this summer…I wonder where she learned to sing? Enjoy! Thanks Adrienne!

Now, go out this week and continue your heroic work for Jesus!

Arthur L. Feffer
January 5, 1920 – August 19, 2010
Torrington, Connecticut

Arthur L. Feffer, 90, of Pine Street, Torrington died Thursday, August 19, 2010 at McLean in Simsbury, CT.

Born January 5, 1920 in Torrington, CT, he was the son of the late Ferdinand and Ottilia (Beger) Feffer. He was employed by Fitzgerald Manufacturing in the Shipping Department until his retirement. Mr. Feffer is survived by one niece, Shirley Cerrigione of Tolland.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Torrington. Funeral services have been entrusted to The LaPorta-Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.

Important Worship Services Announcement

If you know of someone who is not on the internet, please share this information with them.

If you would like to receive the sacrament of Holy Communion, please attend the Saturday worship service on August 14th at 4:00pm where Pastor Paul will preside.

For our Sunday service, Pastor Mike is away through the 15th and Pastor Paul had a previous commitment. Sunday’s service will be lay-led with the help of youth of all ages and our seminarian Tim Ness will be preaching. A blessing of the students will be a part of the service followed by an ice cream social hosted by the Christian Education Committee in the Fellowship Hall. All are invited, and families are asked to bring an ice cream topping to share.

Pastor Mike will return on Monday, August 16th.
