Hello On-liners! Here’s the newsletter for the next 6 weeks. Another one will be published and sent out toward mid-August. Have a great summer for those of you going away. And for those who aren’t - see you very soon!
It seems Carl Brolin is becoming our roving photographer. He’s shared with me some pictures from this past weekend’s Relay for Life. St. Paul’s was well represented. If you were also there, feel free to post comments below. This picture is of Art and Alison LePage and Wendy Iannelli. More pictures available in “Pictures” page along our right column.
Normally, “Changing Light Bulbs” does not seem interesting content for a web site. The exception is changing light bulbs in our santuary. Pastor Mike expressed his thanks to folks involved this past Saturday. This picture comes from Carl Brolin and shows Bruce Magyar and Greg Weingart on a lift replacing bulbs. I wonder how they got this lift throught the door? Nice job guys. We appreciate the “light”!
I understand we had a great turnout for the Tour De Revs stop at St. Paul’s last Friday evening. We had a dinner and activities including a bouncing room and face painting. It was a real happening at our place! Nice frontpage coverage on the Torrington Register. Feel free to comment on the fun if you were there. Thanks to Carl Brolin for supplying the photo. Some more are posted to Pictures page.
Here’s the mission statement from the Tour’s web site:
The goal of the Tour de Revs is to encourage contributions to support ELCA World Hunger activities. We are seeking funds from individuals, congregations, and Synods to support the ELCA in meeting the $25 Million annual goal set in 1999. Along the way, the Team will also encourage folks to set personal health and wellness goals.
From their blog posting:
As stop 22 came to a close in Torrington, Ct. we were treated with a wonderful fun filled street fair. Air Gym, dunking booth, bean bag toss, dart toss, a great band and not to mention fantastic food. But the event that got an encore was the Puppeteers. What a neat ministry these kids provide.
The WorkCamp youth and adults will be holding their car wash on Saturday, June 13th from 9:00am-12:00pm. Please help support St. Paul’s effort to repair and refurbish homes for the elderly in Bridgeton, NJ this July.
Donation for Cars: $5.00
Donation for Trucks/SUVs: $8.00
Also, please note that the wishing well is now available in the narthex for donations towards gas money for the trip. Prices are on the rise again. Please help if you can.
There have been a few inquiries at the church on just what is an Empty Bowl Supper, and we want to make sure everyone is on board with this new concept for St. Paul’s.
An Empty Bowl Supper is a representation of what happens when a food truck comes into an impoverished village or town. The villagers bring a bowl to the truck for whatever food is available that shipment. This is simple fare on Friday: soup, rice, bread and such. It’s best to bring a bowl if you want soup, but a plate will do for other dishes. The donation for this supper is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for seniors and $5.00 for children ages 3-12. If you choose to make an extra donation, you can buy a bowl for $5.00. All proceeds go to help end World Hunger.
Please note that this year, worship on Saturdays are at 4:00pm (not 5:00pm).
Saturday Worship dates in the summer are as follows:
July 11th and July 25th
August 8th and August 22

We have 2 servers, Jacquelyn Wassik and Barbara Nalette, who have devoted more than a decade each to help out in the nursery. Unfortunately they cannot continue serving in this capacity. Please consider signing up to help replace them. Each nursery team serves about every six weeks.
The first slot starts August 16th and second slot starts October 4th.
